MFI instruments can operate in different optical configurations as denoted by their model number. Each model has specific performance and operating characteristics. Please refer to the Product Pages for more information.
Repeatability and consistency of an instrument as well as among multiple instruments of the same model is of utmost importance. It is for this reason that each MFI instrument is designed with a single optical configuration. Our research has shown that providing multiple optical set points can introduce flexibility that is not consistent with the precise adjustments required to obtain acceptable repeatability between instruments. An example would be the production of a biopharmaceutical product at multiple sites which requires precise and repeatable characterization of the end-product. For these applications, a single optical configuration, optimized for the size range of interest (i.e. 1 to 100 µm or 2 to 300 µm for protein formulations), can provide superior repeatability over a user multi-configurable design.
